Derek joined The Nottingham Emmanuel School as Principal in September 2015. He is passionate about the role of Church Schools in delivering high-quality, distinctive, inclusive education for all children. Derek’s work is focused on leading the staff team at Emmanuel, working closely with the governing body to sharpen the School’s performance and, of course, spending as much time as possible in corridors and classrooms.
Jo leads the team of Achievement and Pastoral Managers across the school, ensuring that standards of behaviour both in and out of school are high. Along with the staff who oversee the personal development and welfare of the year groups, she ensures that timely interventions are put into place for individuals as necessary and that all young people are supported to achieve their potential. Jo also oversees attendance and punctuality as well as Year 6 to 7 transition and is on the Admissions Committee. She is the Senior Designated Leader for Safeguarding to whom all referrals about vulnerable students or those facing challenges circumstances are made.
In overseeing student achievement, Andy is primarily responsible for ensuring outstanding outcomes for all students in all years. Working closely with Directors of Learning, Andy ensures that the very best in Teaching and Learning is happening in every classroom and that all students are maximising their results. He also leads on a wide range of other areas of our work, including curriculum, data and assessments, examinations and teacher training.
Assistant Principal and Maths & Computer Science
Laura has a background in leading departments, as well as coordinating and evaluating whole school intervention. In overseeing our core subjects, Laura ensures that students make excellent progress and experience the highest standards of teaching and learning in English and Mathematics. She also has responsibility for literacy and numeracy across the school.
Kerry Wiltshire leads the curriculum development, monitors and evaluates student progress and oversees pastoral support within the Sixth Form. She strives for excellence in terms of student performance and ensures that every student in her care has the support to apply for the most ambitious university courses and apprenticeship placements. She also has oversight of whole school enrichment and growing young leaders through her leadership of the House system.
In 2003 Liz relocated from Durham City to join Emmanuel as a teacher of Geography and ICT. Liz has shown her passion for both Teaching and Learning and staff development as Head of Geography, DLC for Humanities and as the school-wide Teaching and Learning Coach. Liz regularly supports other city and county primary and secondary schools in developing their CPD and T&L provision. Fully committed to student success at Emmanuel, she is now very excited about leading a team of excellent DLCs who continue to develop the very best in teaching and learning across school.
Wilf leads on many of the outward-facing elements of the academy, including IT, finance and community partnership development. The academy is increasingly used by a wide variety of sporting, artistic and church partners throughout the week, and will continue to become an outstanding community hub through his leadership
Associate Assistant Principal & MFL & International Dimension Learning Community
Sarah joined Emmanuel as an NQT in MFL in 2004 and is a determined advocate for language learning. In overseeing the Humanities and MFL Learning community, Sarah ensures on a daily basis that all students are working to their God-given potential in order to make a positive impact in the future on the world around them. This year, Sarah is also leading the chaplaincy team and is passionate about linking the strong and distinctive Christian ethos of the school to strong educational outcomes for all.
Associate Assistant Principal & Teacher of Mathematics
Ben joined the school in 2009 having begun his teaching career in London. His areas of responsibility include curriculum design and the strategic use of data to ensure that every student makes excellent progress at Emmanuel. As well as teaching Maths, Ben leads the Duke of Edinburgh programme, working with students to achieve the award at both bronze and silver levels.

Tony has spent 30 years working in Church schools; starting out as an RE and Science teacher and progressing through subject leadership to senior leadership. He is Principal of All Hallows Catholic College, an outstanding 11-18 all ability school in Macclesfield. He is a National Leader of Education, a qualified School Improvement Partner and has served as an Ofsted Inspector. All Hallows is a designated National Support School providing school improvement and advice services to a wide variety of schools, including schools outside of the Church sector. He is currently working as an Executive Head teacher as part of support provided to a Joint Church (RC/C of E) High School in Halton, Merseyside. Tony specialises in the development of whole school cultures for high quality teaching and learning and assessment, underpinned by a clear values-driven ethos. He is delighted to be working with The Nottingham Emmanuel School as School Improvement Partner.
