Derek joined The Nottingham Emmanuel School as Principal in September 2015. He is passionate about the role of Church Schools in delivering high-quality, distinctive, inclusive education for all children. Derek’s work is focused on leading the staff team at Emmanuel, working closely with the governing body to sharpen the School’s performance and, of course, spending as much time as possible in corridors and classrooms.
Jo leads the team of Achievement and Pastoral Managers across the school, ensuring that standards of behaviour both in and out of school are high. Along with the members of staff who oversee the personal development and welfare of the year groups, she ensures that timely interventions are put into place for individuals as necessary and that all young people are supported to achieve their potential. Jo also works closely with other senior staff in the area of Teaching and Learning and line manages a range of curriculum areas. She is the Senior Designated Leader for Safeguarding and leads a team of staff who are trained DSLs, ensuring that appropriate action is taken when referrals to other agencies is necessary.
Laura leads on Teaching, Learning & Assessment across the school, leading a team of excellent middle leaders to ensure that our students access quality lessons and make good progress across all their subjects. Laura also leads the Mathematics & Computer Science Learning Community as well as being responsible for numeracy and literacy across school.
Sarah joined Emmanuel as an NQT in MFL in 2004 and is a determined advocate for language learning. Sarah has lead the MFL department and the Humanities and MFL Learning Community and in all her work, ensures on a daily basis that all students are working to their God-given potential in order to make a positive impact in the future on the world around them. This year, Sarah is leading on Christian ethos and distinctiveness, leading both the Chaplaincy and HOH Teams. She is passionate about linking the strong and distinctive Christian ethos of the school to strong educational outcomes for all.
Jonathan relocated from an ‘Outstanding’ school in London in September 2017 to lead on ‘Student Outcomes’ at Emmanuel. Having originally trained as a History teacher through the ‘Teach First’ programme, Jonathan’s responsibilities now include overseeing curriculum and assessment design, with a focus on developing the school’s systems of tracking and reporting pupil progress. Jonathan works with teachers and leaders across the school to ensure excellent progress for every student in every year group across all subjects.

In 2003 Liz relocated from Durham City to join Emmanuel as a teacher of Geography and ICT. Liz has shown her passion for both Teaching and Learning and staff development as Head of Geography, DLC for Humanities and Social Sciences, as the school-wide Teaching and Learning Coach and most recently as Assistant Principal. Liz regularly supports primary and secondary schools across Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire in developing their CPD, T&L and Leadership provision. Fully committed to student success at Emmanuel, she is now very excited about working alongside new and experienced teachers and leaders to grow their capacity and develop their skills to ensure the very best provision for our students.

Ben joined the school in 2009 having begun his teaching career in London. His areas of responsibility include curriculum design and the strategic use of data to ensure that every student makes excellent progress at Emmanuel. As well as teaching Maths, Ben leads the Duke of Edinburgh programme, working with students to achieve the award at both bronze and silver levels.
Head of Sixth Form
Lucy joined Emmanuel in 2016 having previously enjoyed 17 years working in a local Church of England Academy where she led and managed both pastoral and curriculum teams. Lucy passionately believes that the work of the Sixth Form should be underpinned by the ethos of the school and that students should be provided with opportunities for exploration, discussion, challenge and debate. Lucy is committed to ensuring that the education in Sixth Form is about inspiring a thirst for life-long learning, equipping each child with the confidence, knowledge and skills that will enable them to reach their academic potential, while providing the opportunities essential for students to develop socially, morally and spiritually.

Tony has spent 30 years working in Church schools; starting out as an RE and Science teacher and progressing through subject leadership to senior leadership. He is Principal of All Hallows Catholic College, an outstanding 11-18 all ability school in Macclesfield. He is a National Leader of Education, a qualified School Improvement Partner and has served as an Ofsted Inspector. All Hallows is a designated National Support School providing school improvement and advice services to a wide variety of schools, including schools outside of the Church sector. He is currently working as an Executive Head teacher as part of support provided to a Joint Church (RC/C of E) High School in Halton, Merseyside. Tony specialises in the development of whole school cultures for high quality teaching and learning and assessment, underpinned by a clear values-driven ethos. He is delighted to be working with The Nottingham Emmanuel School as School Improvement Partner.
