Record-breaking A Level results

Historically their best results to date with students achieving an unprecedented number of top grades and making progress significantly above national average during their courses.

There have been celebrations today at The Nottingham Emmanuel School as students arrived to collect their A Level results.

Despite the increased challenge in both the content and mode of assessment of many A level courses, students at The Nottingham Emmanuel School have obtained the highest number of A*-B grades, more than in any previous year.

Such results included many excellent individual outcomes with students going on to study at the country’s leading universities. Ying (A*, A*, A, B) will go onto study Social Policy and Sociology at the London School of Economics, Linzi (A*, A, A) will study Law with Criminology at the University of Birmingham, Chloe (A*, A*, B) will study Sociology at the University of Birmingham, Isobel (A*, A, B) will go onto the University of Leeds to study Psychology and Mzimkhulu (A, A, B) will go to the University of Bath to study Computer Science.

Student Abigail was delighted with the news that she has been accepted to study History at Birmingham University. She said, “I am really happy with my results. I was really only worried about getting into Birmingham and on a scale of one to ten, I was around a seven for nerves!” Mum Annie said that she was proud of her daughter’s commitment. “I couldn’t be prouder. Abigail has worked so hard, not just in the past two years, but the last seven, and Birmingham was her dream. Now she is in and I am super proud of her!”

Abigail says that during the lead up to exams she had felt the pressure. “My teacher Mrs Tickle really helped me with my nerves and was really understanding. She talked a lot to me and gave me tips and ideas. She also shared her own experience of going through her own exams and that really helped me to get through it.”

Student Ying is destined for the London School of Economics and Political Science. “I feel overwhelmed and really pleased. All of the help and support that I received from the school, – you can’t put a value on that!” Ying will go on to study Sociology and Social Policy. Mum Helen said, “I am very proud of her. I will miss her, but it is only two hours by train and she will be fine.”

Principal Derek Hobbs says he is delighted with the latest results. “The AS and A Level results are impressive with more top grades than ever, in spite of national uncertainty. All school sixth forms can make bold claims about the successes of their top-performing students. What makes this summer so special is the fact that we can confidently say that students joining Emmanuel Sixth Form make progress which is significantly above average locally and nationally over their two years with us. Very well done to the students and staff for such great results!”
