The Modern Foreign Languages department at Emmanuel has thoroughly enjoyed taking over seventy students to Madrid since July, and we have just returned from our latest visit.
Mrs Anderson, Mr Barnaby and Miss Marshall took 30 Year 8 and 9 students to enjoy the sights of Madrid for four days and have praised highly the behaviour and enthusiasm of the group, who were repeatedly commended by members of the public for the way in which they positively represented the school. During our time in Madrid, we visited the Palacio Real and enjoyed the stunning architecture of the official residence of the Spanish royal family. We also enjoyed souvenir shopping in the very picturesque Plaza Mayor, exploring the vast Retiro Park and soaking up some culture in the Museo del Prado. One of the highlights of the trip was the visit to Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium, where we were not only able to sit in the breathtakingly high seats at the very top of the stadium but also pitch-side in the dug outs.
Tion said, ‘The best bit for me was going to the stadium because we got to see where the players trained and got changed and you could feel the amazing atmosphere on the pitch’.
Visiting another country is the most wonderful way to learn about a different culture and all of our students enjoyed learning more about the Spanish way of life through exploring the capital city. Many also tried out their language skills when buying souvenirs and ordering food with some very impressive Spanish accents!
Chloe struggled to pick out one highlight from the trip, ‘For me I loved all of the trip because the city was amazing. I enjoyed all of the activities and especially staying in such a pleasant hotel’.
We are very pleased to announce that the next visit to Madrid will take place in July 2018 and will be open to all students in Key Stage 3. Watch this space for more details!
