It’s been another year and another successful trip out to our partner school, Dutch Komenda Catholic Basic School in Ghana.
This was the sixth year that we have been out to Dutch Komenda and the partnership is stronger than ever. Fourteen Year 11s and Sixth Form students travelled out to Ghana, with Mr Pickup and Ms Diamantis, to complete two infrastructure projects and continue building positive relationships with staff, students and the local community.
In our previous visits, ICT provision has been an area that we have been helping the school to develop and this year we brought with us over 20 laptops, which we installed into a brand new ICT suite for the lower school, to complement the ICT suite for the upper school, which was installed by our 2013 Partner Ghana team. Dutch Komenda is now considered a flagship school for ICT in the local area and Mr Pickup and Ms Diamantis spent some time this year with the leadership of Dutch Komenda, planning how the school can share its expertise and facilities with other schools in the area.
This year also saw the completion of a covered canteen area where Dutch Komenda’s students can now sit and eat their lunch. Our students spent time building relationships with the students, including teaching English, reading and organising the school sports day. Ms Diamantis said “having been out to the school twice now I can really see how the partnership is benefitting both the Dutch Komenda community and staff and students at Emmanuel; long may it continue!”.
Moses from Dutch Komenda School said, “Our partnership with Nottingham Emmanuel School has been great and wonderful. Our students are learning how to live with people from a different culture. We have also had lots of benefits from the partnership; teachers quarters and painting of the school blocks. We are happy that we are growing together, learning together and serving together. Long live the partnership between Emmanuel School and Dutch Komenda School.’
