Thy Kingdom Come 2018

Friday 18th May was the national schools day for Thy Kingdom Come. Thy Kingdom Come is a multi denominational movement started by the Church of England to encourage people to pray for others. This was based around the Lord’s Prayer.

As a school we chose the theme ‘Building Community – Seeking the best for others’ and began the day with a breakfast to encourage our staff community and reflect on some things that might help us build that community through prayer activities.

Students in years 7, 8 and 9 were invited to contribute a picture drawn by them of something they were thankful for in the world. We then collated these pictures in to a large display, each member of those communities building the final piece. This was to represent that we all contribute something to the wider community of our school and this world.

We also had an extremely successful lunch time event where visitors from churches across Nottingham came in to run prayer activities in the cloister. We had 4 different activities: pray for the world – where students were able to write their prayers for the world in chalk on the brick around a world map. Pray for others – students were able to make pipe cleaner people and attach them to a particular prayer that they wanted to pray for that person. Learn to pray – students were able to make cards with 3 things they wanted to remember to pray for and visitors having conversations with the students about prayer and it’s purpose. Finally, can someone pray for me – we had a station where students were able to receive a prayer from staff or a visitor for anything they felt they wanted to share. This event was a joy to be a part of and we are very grateful to Trent Vineyard Church, Heart Church and Trinity Church Nottingham for contributing to the event.

All in all a brilliant day where students were able to explore and reflect on prayer and praying for others.
