The School recently celebrated World Book Day and its 20 year anniversary by holding a range of activities and events for all students.
During morning break and lunchtime, students were encouraged to write short stories of their own through reading opening passages from famous children’s books and continuing them in their own way. Food was also on hand to aid their thinking and each food was linked to a book – Turkish Delight from C.S. Lewis’, ‘Narnia’ series, Chocolate from Roald Dahl’s, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and Lollipops from Ian Fleming’s, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.
All students in Years 7, 8 and 9 were also given a free book as part of the celebrations and many have been seen walking down corridors with their heads buried in the pages, which is fantastic.
Student Librarians and those who attend our Book Club were invited along in the afternoon to The Bookcase bookshop in Lowdham to help choose some new titles for our library. A wide selection was chosen and their selections are already out on display in the library for students to borrow.
Thank you to all students and staff who took part. It was fantastic to see the school community celebrating books and literature. We’re now really looking forward to our very own Literary Festival in June 2017.
