Year 9 Holocaust Trip

A group of 75 year 9 students visited the National Holocaust Memorial Centre last week as part of their studies of the age of Genoicide during the 20th century in History. The students toured an exhibition on the rise of the Nazi Party and their persecution of the Jews, leading to the Holocaust. Then they took part in memorial activities in the Centre’s Garden of Remembrance, such as adding to the living sculpture dedicated to all the children killed in the Holocaust. The students asked some fantastic questions and were really grappling with the difficult issues raised by their topic.

In the afternoon students were able to experience ‘The Forever Project’ which is a 3D recording of a Holocaust survivor telling their story and then, thanks to new technology, were able to ask the survivor questions through the 3D recording. Students seemed to be deeply moved by the whole day and since coming back into school have been sharing what they discovered with other students and applying it to their learning.
