At Key Stage 3, the three main activities can be divided into three strands – creating, performing and responding. Students learn to communicate as a team and to listen, respect and respond to those involved in the Drama process. They create and take part in improvised scenes in order to explore particular issues, themes and events. Some topics include, A Night in the Waxworks, Macbeth and Evacuees.
At Key Stage 4 we offer GCSE Drama which includes Drama Explorations, involving the use of Drama to develop ideas and issues in response to stimulus material and scripts. The students develop knowledge and understanding of the ways in which playwrights, performers and directors use the medium of Drama to communicate their ideas to an audience. There is also an externally assessed practical examination of a performance.
At Key Stage 5, students can choose The Edexcel AS and A2 GCE in Drama and Theatre Studies. These extend the knowledge, skills and understanding of Drama and theatre through improvised work and plays. The role of the director is also explored, encouraging original thinking and interpretation of plays.
