Welcome to English

At Key Stage 3, students develop their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills in half termly units. Students cover drama, poetry, prose, non fiction, Shakespeare and media units that teach them the skills they need to achieve in English in a fun, active and enjoyable way. We take part in many nationwide projects such as BBC School Report in Year 8 where students create their own news programmes which are broadcast through the internet. We also take part in the BBC project ‘60 Seconds Shakespeare’ which encourages students to study Shakespeare in a more active way; students create their own condensed versions of the play in groups and film their productions - a highlight of Year 7 for the students who took part! Students often use multimedia technologies within English lessons to take a more active approach to texts and to allow the students to explore the subject in many different and exciting ways whilst preparing them for the challenges of GCSE.

At Key Stage 4 we offer a range of qualifications which include GCSE English, GCSE English Literature, Certificate of Education in English, GCSE Media Studies (double and single award)

At Key Stage 5, we offer A Level English Language, English Literature and Media Studies

To support the school enrichment programme, we offer creative writing classes and GCSE coursework catch up.
