Welcome to History
Introducing the Team
At Key Stage 3, students learn about the relationship between the rulers and the ruled over the past 2000 years, how the United Kingdom was formed, the causes and consequences of WW1 and WW2, the Scramble for Africa, whilst also focussing upon Slavery past and present. There are many more opportunities for pupils to express their ideas about historical questions and issues in local, national and global contexts. At Key Stage 4 we offer GCSE History which includes a development study which examines continuities and changes in the history of medicine from the Prehistoric period to the end of the 20th century. Students also focus in depth on why totalitarianism developed in Germany and its political, social, economic, cultural and religious impact on people at that time. Finally students also have the opportunity to study an historical enquiry based on either a Modern World study or a site of local historical significance. They will use and evaluate a range of historical sources critically in their context and reach reasoned conclusions. At Key Stage 5, we offer the opportunity to study key individuals such as Stalin and Henry VIII as well as examining the pursuit of equality in the USA, 1945-68. There is also an opportunity to study the economic, political and social tensions within the USA in the period from 1917 to 1954. Students will also carry out an independent enquiry which will address the changing nature of warfare over a period of at least 100 years. Enrichment Activities
To support the school enrichment programme, we offer the following activities: Discovery club, which gives students the opportunity to research a topic of their choice; coursework and exam support clinics; plus numerous opportunities to visit sites of historical interest both locally, nationally and internationally.
