At Key Stage 3, students develop their musical abilities in 3 core areas – performing, composing and listening. This is achieved through a variety of practical projects including, Music and Film, Music and Improvisation, Music and Theatre and Music and Dance. In Year 7, students take part in the pioneering Wider Opportunities Project, where they choose either Saxophone, Trumpet or Double Bass, and play as a class ensemble, developing their instrumental skills in performance and composition. In Year 9, students work towards the Arts Award Bronze through a selection of projects culminating in a trip to London to see a musical in the West End.

At Key Stage 4, we offer a range of qualifications which include GCSE Music and NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Music Technology. GCSE Music follows the AQA Specification and includes units focused on Solo/Ensemble Performance, Composition and Listening and Analysis. In Music Technology, students follow the vocational programme which develops their skills in Recording, Sequencing and Computer Music Production. Students work in collaboration with our partners at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies to complete the course.

At Key Stage 5, we offer AS and A2 Music, following the OCR Specification, focusing on core skills of musical analysis with set works drawn from the Orchestral and Jazz repertoire. Students develop their performance skills through a range of workshops in preparation for the externally examined recital. Music Technology students follow the Edexcel specification at AS and A2, and also follow the BTEC National Award in Music Technology as an alternative pathway. The annual exchange programme with Visible School, Memphis, takes all Key Stage 5 students to USA to develop their skills and musical experience through a range of visits, collaborative projects and degree-level workshops.
