I have taught woodwind across Nottinghamshire for many years, specialising on clarinet, saxophone and flute. I started off on clarinet whilst at Primary school and moved onto piano as well when I reached secondary school. Whilst there, due to the massive number of clarinetists at the time, all trying to get into the same orchestras, I took up the viola and enjoyed playing both clarinet and viola in different groups.
Part of my teaching today is string and piano/keyboard tuition but my passion is still for clarinet, saxophone and flute. I studied for a BA(Hons) in Music in Education at university and obtained a diploma in clarinet performance as well. I then went on to study for a PGCE in secondary teaching. I have worked in Nottinghamshire ever since, working for the County music service, in it’s many guises. A number of my past pupils have gone on to play professionally or are themselves, now teaching music, for which I am very proud.
I retired from Inspire Music 3 years ago and am now working privately in a number of schools in the local area. I am also currently playing in a number of orchestras in the East Midlands on clarinet and saxophone and play alto saxophone in the Loxley Saxophone Ensemble. I am also one of the Nottingham Youth Orchestra tutors.
