Bronze Arts Awards

Fifty students from The Nottingham Emmanuel School are celebrating the achievement of their Bronze Arts Awards this week. Described as “creative and inspirational” by the external moderator, the Year 9 students were nationally recognised for the way shared their understanding about the arts and produced their own art and music. Thanks to Emmanuel’s Arts staff who trained as Arts Award Advisers (Ms. Barnes, Ms. Leddie and Ms. James-Davis) for organising this enriching and interesting opportunity for our pupils.

Arts Award is a range of unique qualifications that supports anyone aged up to 25 to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world through taking challenges in an art form – from fashion to digital art, pottery to poetry.

Through progressing through the five levels, young people get to:

  • discover the enjoyment of creating and participating in arts activities
  • experience arts events
  • develop creative and communication skills that are essential for success in 21st century life
  • explore the work of artists and craftspeople and gain insights into the professional arts world
  • gain experience and knowledge to help progress into further education and employment

Every Archway Learning Trust Academy is now running or setting up Arts Award – from Discover in Bluecoat Primary to Silver at Bluecoat Wollaton. The great news it encourages independent learning; young people can choose the arts work they do, how to do it and provide evidence of this work digitally.

Some parts of Arts Award can be achieved in a home setting – such as the student’s favourite Part C about researching which artists inspire them and why – from Stormzy to Shakespeare, Part A – making their own art work and Part D sharing an arts skill – by making a YouTube like tutorial.
