Exceptional GCSE results

There were celebrations today as The Nottingham Emmanuel School announced an exceptional set of GCSE exam results, with the school set to achieve its highest ever progress score when this is officially published in the autumn, above local and national averages. This follows superb A Level results last week, meaning that key progress measures at both GCSE and A Level are above average.

The stand-out performers this year were girls, who achieved on average almost a whole grade better than national expectations in every one of their subjects. Grace who achieved 7 Grade 9 qualifications will be returning to the Emmanuel Sixth Form to study English Literature, Spanish, Maths and Physics. Her mum said, “We are really proud of Grace. She worked incredibly hard and it has paid off. She has loved her time at Emmanuel. Thank you to all staff for their care and teaching. It’s been a fantastic experience”.

There were some outstanding performances amongst boys, too, with Blaine achieving 5 GCSEs at Grade 9. Blaine is relocating to Cambridge and has been offered a place at the prestigious Hills Road College.

Mr Irons, Director of Achievement at Emmanuel, said “We are thrilled for the students and extremely pleased to see that so many are returning to Emmanuel to study in our Sixth Form. Whilst it is important to celebrate the students such and Grace and Blaine who have achieved the highest grades, I also want to pay tribute to a huge number of students who have made outstanding academic progress since they joined Emmanuel.” One such example is Maisie, who said that she was “completely overwhelmed, but so proud”. Maisie would attend school at 7:30am to meet with Mr Thomas, Maths academic mentor, in the morning to receive additional Maths tuition to guarantee her Grade 7. Maisie had to balance academic work alongside her commitments as a national basketball player.

Another student who made great progress from his starting point, Nicholas, was quoted as saying that he was “pleased that his hard work had paid off”. His dad commented, “I am really pleased for both of my children who have received the GCSE results today. They have worked so hard. Their success is down to Nick and Alex’s determination to do well; but also credit to the teachers who have worked so hard to support our children needs. I would just like to take the opportunity to thank the staff at school from the bottom of my heart”.

Emmanuel joined Archway Learning Trust last year and has celebrated a number of successes this year, with attendance running well over 96% and demand for places at the school having doubled recently, with almost 500 applications for 180 places last year. The school’s next open evening takes place on Thursday 19 September at 6.30pm.
