Phil Reckless – Brass

Phil Reckless

Phil studied music from an early age and furthered his musical learning at music college where he received a B.A.(Hons) degree in Music. He now works as a freelance trumpet player, educator, conductor and musical arranger.  

 

Phil is an experienced musician and has worked with many bands, ensembles and orchestras. Recent highlights include touring the UK & Europe with the ‘Hello Again Neil Diamond’ show, touring with the ‘Classical Gatecrasher Orchestra’, performing with the UK tour ‘Magic of Motown’, playing on the UK tour of ‘La Cage Aux Folles’, playing on Kilworth House Theatre productions (‘Legally Blonde’, ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’), working with the ‘BBC Philharmonic’ on Family Orchestra projects and playing principle trumpet with the ‘Orchestra of the Swan’.

 

As an educator Phil teaches privately and also works as a Brass Instrumental & Music Teacher in some of Nottinghamshire’s schools. He has worked as Brass Tutor for the Nottinghamshire Education Symphony Orchestra & Concert Band. Phil has also worked as Brass Tutor for the Nottingham Youth Orchestra. In his schools Phil runs several musical ensembles, including brass ensembles, jazz bands and wind bands. 

 

Phil writes and arranges music extensively for brass but has also arranged music for a variety of other ensembles. He has scored horn-section charts for many soul bands, function bands, and a variety of UK tribute acts. He has also arranged many orchestral and wind band scores.

 

Phil is a member of Essentially Brass (www.essentiallybrass.co.uk), a professional brass quintet based in the East Midlands. He has arranged much of the repertoire that the group performs. He has also written various projects for the group, including music for Brass & Percussion (Helen Shelton), Brass & Organ (Peter Siepmann) and ‘Letters from the Front’ – a Remembrance piece written for the centenary of WWI.

 

His recent roles as Musical Director include conducting the stage production of ‘Beauty & The Beast’, ‘Calamity Jane’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Annie’, ‘Half A Sixpence’, ‘Oliver!’, ‘Whistle Down the Wind’, ‘Singing in the Rain’, ‘Anything Goes’, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Hello Dolly’.
