My love of singing goes back earlier than I can remember – my parents recall me, aged 2, standing at the top of the stairs singing Barbara Streisand’s ‘Woman In Love’ at the top of my voice! As a child I took part in various musical productions, choirs, and music festivals and I achieved ABRSM Grade 8 Singing with Distinction before going to university. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in American & Spanish American Studies and went on to pursue a corporate sales career while continuing to sing and perform in my spare time.
Then, in 2016, I was asked to help with my daughter’s school choir and that sparked my passion for helping children develop a love for singing. I retrained as a singing teacher through the Association of Teachers of Singing’s Pathways Course, as well as achieving a DipABRSM in Music Performance, and have now been teaching for almost 5 years (4 years at Nottingham Emmanuel School).
I have experience working with pupils aged 7 through to adulthood and teaching singing in a range of genres (pop, rock, folk, musical theatre and classical) both from my home studio and in other local schools. I am also the Musical Director for an adult community choir called Vale Voices.
