Emmanuel Awarded Prestigious ‘Music Mark’

The Nottingham Emmanuel School was recently awarded the coveted ‘Music Mark’ by Bridget Whyte, Chief Executive of the National organisation and Subject Association for Music Education. The School was nominated for the award by Nottingham Music Service, in recognition of the value placed on music and the school’s dedication to delivering a broad and balanced curriculum. The award was formally presented to Derek Hobbs, Principal, at the Royal Concert Hall as part of the Christmas in the City celebrations in which singers from The Nottingham Emmanuel School performed on stage in front of friends, family and the wider community.

The Nottingham Emmanuel School encourages all students to begin or continue to play  instruments building on from primary school and offers a wide variety of instrumental lessons.  Every lunchtime and after school, extra-curricular opportunities are available, including ‘Open house’, choir, A-Capella groups and a variety  of bands and ensembles. This year we have welcomed Nottingham Music Hub’s ‘Area Band’, with around 40 primary age musicians from local schools, to rehearse after school on Mondays, encouraging younger children to enjoy learning a musical instrument and experience playing together in our performance space.

It has been a busy Autumn term with many different events. We had the exciting opportunity to take part in celebrating the start of advent with the local community at the Christmas tree lights switch-on event in Wilford in December.  The Nottingham Emmanuel School continues to get involved in supporting the wider community; one new venture this year was supporting a Christmas party for a local residential home. This included a performance from the Emmanuel Singers, who also led some rousing carols.
