Pupils from years 8, 9 and 10 enjoyed a rewarding afternoon in the Department of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. Their time was spent getting to grips with hands-on activities including lots of fun with liquid Nitrogen – smashing quick-frozen flowers. Some pupils also got lost in virtual reality, discovered 3D printed objects and found out how a jet engine made and flew rubber band powered planes as well as man other activities.
Afterwards, the pupils were treated to an eventful Christmas Lecture by Dr John Turner which included freezing materials and smashing glass and showing how materials research improves all aspects of our lives.
