Our ‘Children of Courage’ Awards

Two Nottingham Emmanuel School students have been recognised at The Rotary Clubs of Nottingham 2018 Children of Courage Awards.

Students Kyle and Ashar were both honoured at the Awards ceremony, which recognises young people who have shown courage in the face of adversity.
Kyle said he was surprised that his teachers had nominated him. “I feel happy because I have been awarded and it’s a good thing for me.” Kyle’s mum Fiona agrees. “I am extremely proud of Kyle because he has had some difficulties to overcome, but always takes everything in his stride. He is so positive all the time and I love that Emmanuel has nominated him; it will be such a boost to his confidence.”

Kyle says he particularly likes to do Mathematics classes. “The teachers all help me a lot when I get stuck. I think Mr Jackson nominated me because I have done well in my lessons even when I find it hard.”

Mum Fiona says it will create an amazing memory for them both. “Since coming to Emmanuel, Kyle has not only caught up in his studies but exceeded expectations in some subjects. I am really proud of him!”

Student Ashar was also nominated for an award and was described by his Teacher, Mr Marsh, as a very popular student, always willing to volunteer, and a student who shows courage and determination every day. Mr Marsh praised Ashar as a “…a shining light in the year group”.

Mr Marsh said, “Ashar is someone that many students now look up to as a result of his incredible tenacity.”

Ashar says he thinks the reason he was nominated was because he tries his best every day, “I feel very happy and very excited. I think it’s because I am always happy!”
