On 20th November, all of our Sixth Form students attended a work skills event at Pride Park Stadium, Derby. Students were involved in a wide range of activities including external speakers from BDO (a Global Accounting/Professional Service Firm), Lloyds Bank and Experian. Students then had the opportunity to attend a wide range of workshops about different apprenticeship schemes on offer and how they can get involved. Workshops on offer included those run by the following companies:
• Browne Jacobson
• Joined up Careers
• IBM
• Experian
• Arriva
• East Midlands Trains
Emmanuel student Haris Syed won an iPad in a prize draw after signing up to an app called ‘Young Professionals’ which is a platform to research companies in and around Nottingham and apprenticeships that are currently available. Entrepreneur Dan Miller (CEO of Young Professionals) spoke about how he set up the company to support young adults to develop their transferable skills and to secure apprenticeship opportunities.
Overall, it was a fantastic and insightful event for students to be involved in and to find out more about ‘Post 18’ options.
