Emmanuel School Fulfills a Vision for Education
The Very Reverend John Hall, Dean of Westminster, today held up the achievements of The Nottingham Emmanuel School as "fulfilling a vision of education, where everyone can discover their unique purpose and the contribution they can make". Speaking at the school's dedication service in front of the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, the Bishop of Sherwood and other invited guests, he praised the progress made since he last visited the school in 2002.
"I came to see the school at its inception, before it had admitted its first pupils", he said. "Its tremendously exciting to see what has been done since then. A whole cohort of pupils have moved through the school and now it has a wonderful new building, which we're dedicating today".
Before the dedication service itself, John Hall took part in an open 'Question Time' discussion with Post-16 students, in an echo of the discussions he held with prospective year 7 students nearly ten years ago.
"As a previous Director of Education for the Church of England, John Hall has been a central figure in the advancement of Christian education", said headteacher Carol Fearria. "His vision of church education as the heart of the church's mission is one in which we are thrilled to play our part."
Students, staff, governors and parents all took part in the dedication of the new school buildings, which were the result of a £27 million build project. The school stands on the south bank of the River Trent, next to the old toll bridge. This was built to bring people together and is a fitting symbol to reflect the Emmanuel School mission, emphasised throughout the dedication service, of 'Together - to learn, to grow, to serve'.
