The intent of our curriculum is to engage children in great learning, enable them to develop great character and provide opportunities for them to become great servant-leaders. These aims apply to every child, regardless of background, gender and prior attainment. The curriculum is knowledge-rich and gives students opportunities to apply and transfer this knowledge and communicate with others through strong literacy skills. It strives to equip all students with the tools required to actively develop a love of learning that will endure beyond the school gates. Our values of wisdom, hope, community and dignity provide the framework for our curriculum design.
We operate a one week timetable with 5 lessons per day. In addition, there are a wide range of enrichment opportunities at lunchtimes and after school each day ranging from academic support to broader interests such as sport and the Arts including qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. NES is committed to developing both student character and active citizenship and believes that enrichment is the vehicle to promote cultural capital for all.
At Key Stage 4, Students personalise their curriculum by choosing options which include a wide range of GCSE and Vocational courses. All of our students receive detailed individual advice and guidance to ensure that they choose the right options for them to provide them with a platform for further study. Assessment in these courses takes place in a variety of forms including assignments during the course and public examinations at the end of Key Stage 4.
PSHE, SRE and Citizenship are taught through a series of calendared drop down days for each year group as well as through the tutor time program. The PSHE program has a variety of strands which are delivered to every year group and these include: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, Living in the Wider World and the development of key skills and attributes such as tolerance, resilience, respect and critical thinking.
Sixth Form students choose from over 35 courses including A levels, Level 3 Applied courses and Level 2 courses. Further details including the option blocks can be found on the Sixth Form web pages.
