Sixth Form Drop Down Day
Sixth Formers from The Nottingham Emmanuel School have been working closely with local and national employers to explore the opportunities available to them on completion of their studies. At the end of January students were released from lessons to attend a series of workshops facilitated by employees from Experian, Roythornes Solicitors and BDO. This one day event was planned in conjunction with Dan Miller, an award winning entrepreneur from Derby who set up his business ‘Young Professionals’ at just 16 years old to help improve the careers and business advice available in schools.
During the event our students enjoyed hearing directly from employers about the routes into a variety of professions and appreciated the chance to take some dedicated time out from their studies to consider where their qualifications might take them in the future. The morning workshops also focused on CV writing and interview skills which enabled students to prepare for a one to one mock interview with the employers during the afternoon. For many of our Sixth Formers this provided them with their first experience of an interview. One student commented that “It was good to see what a proper interview might be like and think about the types of skills that employers are looking for. Although it was nerve-wracking, I’m pleased that I have done it because it really helped me to think about how I demonstrate key competencies like teamwork and reflect on my strengths and weaknesses which will help me going forward”.
At Emmanuel we are determined to create opportunities that challenge, inspire and encourage our students to pursue fulfilling careers. We are delighted that bespoke events such as this have such a positive impact on our students and ensure that our careers and employability provision enables our Sixth Formers to achieve their career aspirations in the future.
