HE+ visit to Peterhouse College, Cambridge

The HE+ project is aimed at students from state schools who have the potential to make strong applications to the University of Cambridge and other research-intensive universities. The aim of the project is to provide students with activities which stretch and challenge them academically and also provide support and guidance to make a competitive application to a top university.

On 13th February a group of students from The Nottingham Emmanuel Sixth Form attended a taster day at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, which enabled students to learn more about the subjects offered at Cambridge and to get a flavour of studying there. Students heard an ‘Introduction to Oxbridge’ talk and were taken on a tour of the campus. They were given advice on making a competitive application to Oxbridge and participated in lectures in their chosen subject stream. Lectures were on a broad range of topics including ‘An Introduction to Chemical Biology’, ‘Stories from the Skeleton’ and ‘Pharmacology’ to name but a few.

Zaynab, a year 12 student at The Nottingham Emmanuel Sixth Form, said ‘It has been such a fantastic opportunity! The visit really opened my eyes to what I can expect if I choose to study at Cambridge. The advice on how to make a competitive application to Oxbridge was really valuable and I really enjoyed the lectures.’
