Admissions Criteria
The Nottingham Emmanuel School stands as a beacon school regionally and nationally for distinctively Christian secondary education, providing the very best academic opportunities through excellent teaching and learning, working together to provide purposeful and holistic development of every student.
We have an inclusive admissions policy, welcoming differing proportions of families with a Christian faith, a world faith and with no faith to apply for a place.
We look forward to welcoming you to join a different kind of learning journey – one which combines the very best in academic aspiration with the very best in character and faith development. Families are advised that children are expected to participate in twice weekly Acts of Worship and to receive a full Religious Education.
Admissions
The closing date for all first admission applications is the 31st October each year.
If you have made an application for a Year 7 place in September 2026, notification of school allocation will be made by your home local authority on National Offer Day Monday 2nd March 2026.
Further information on applying to The Nottingham Emmanuel School and a timeline of the admissions arrangements for 2026-2027 is available below.
Please note the school has different admission numbers for other year groups which have been determined by the operational capacity of the Academy. This operational capacity is decided after taking into account the following:
- Class sizes, especially in option groups which are full and adding additional students would prejudice the provision of education for existing students.
- Adding additional students would require additional teaching hours which would mean recruiting new teachers, which has not been financially planned for in the current curriculum.
Year 7 – 180
Year 8 – 180
Year 9 – 180
Year 10 – 180
Year 11 – 180

Stage One and Stage Two Appeal date TBC
- I did not get a place at NES and was offered a place at another school. Should I reject the offer if I plan to submit an appeal?
No. The academy and the local authority strongly recommend accepting the place offered, even if you are appealing. This ensures you will have a school place while the appeal process is ongoing. - I missed the deadline of the 31st October, Is it too late to apply for a place at the Academy?
Families who didn’t apply by the deadline can still apply for September 2026. They should contact their Local Authority to submit a Late Application and they will be added to the academy’s waiting list by the Local Authority.
Please complete the form below if you are applying for an In-Year admission.
In-Year admissions apply to students who are currently in, or should be in, Years 7–11. Applications must be made directly to the academy.
Important: We can only accept applications from students with a current UK address. If you are not yet living in the UK, please wait until you have arrived before applying.
The Nottingham Emmanuel School operates a sixth form with a total capacity of 250 students.
There are 140 places available for Year 12 applicants of which 38 will be available for external students.
This is the minimum number of places, which will be offered on an annual basis to eligible external applicants.
If fewer number of places for internal applicants are taken up, additional external students will be admitted until Year 12 meets its capacity of 140.
To determine eligibility for admission, the Academy will publish specific criteria in relation to minimum entrance requirements for Year 12 based on GCSE grades or other measures of prior attainment. (Nottingham Emmanuel School Sixth Form will also publish academic entry requirements for each course available based upon GCSE grades or other measures of prior attainment). These criteria will be the same for internal and external transfers and will be published in its prospectus and on its website.
Students failing to meet the entry requirements for their preferred course option will be offered alternative courses if available, providing they meet the course specific entry criteria.
Entry requirements:
Entry requirements into the Sixth Form vary according to the level of study students wish to access, and are detailed below:
- Level 3 (A level or A level equivalent) – 5 GCSE or equivalent qualifications at grade 4 including a grade 4 in English Language and maths. (Please refer to the Sixth Form course guide for further guidance on subject specific entry criteria)
- Level 2 (Vocational and / or equivalent to GCSE) students must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSES at Grade 3, including English Language and Maths.
Availability of Places:
The Sixth Form offers 120 places for Level 3 programmes and 20 places for Level 2 programmes.
In the event of over-subscription for external places, the following criteria, which are listed in order of priority, will be used to allocate places:
- Students who are looked after or previously looked after who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order including children who were previously in state care outside of England and who ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
- Students that have a sibling who will be attending The Nottingham Emmanuel School at the time of the applicants admission.
- In the event of over-subscription preference will be given to children who live nearest to the Academy using straight-line measurement from the main external entrance door of Bluecoat Aspley Academy Sixth Form Building, Aspley Lane, Nottingham, NG8 5GY. In the event that such a measure is identical to the nearest metre for two or more children and there are insufficient places available for both or all of them, the remaining place/s will be by random allocation using lots drawn by a person independent of the Academy.
All enquiries and applications should be addressed to the Head of Sixth Form: kjones2@emmanuel.nottingham.sch.uk
